Understanding Climate Change Mitigation: Easy Measures that will help to Preserve the Earth

Such mega trends as the climate change can be considered as one of the most pressing issues that our world has to deal with. It is understood to long-term variations in temperatures and behaviors of the climate. Habits that happen due to human interventions are also major sources of some changes. Fossil fuel such as coal, oil and gas when burned generates carbon dioxide (CO2) and other green house gases. These gases retain heat and contribute to increase the overall temperature of the earth commonly known as global warming. Although I must say, there exists viable solutions with which we can effectively solve this problem. This is where climate change mitigation comes in. The goal of climate change mitigation is, therefore, to reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses by projects such as practicing proper sanitation and hygiene during floods and natural disasters.

Mitigation in terms of the climate change can be defined as the promotion of measures that could help to lessen the impact of climate change in the world today.

Reduction entails eradicating applications or activities which emit greenhouse gases. The intention is to reverse or at least limit the constant rising of the global temperature, and generate a stable climate. This includes the use of clean energy, efficiency enhancement, and the protection of nature’s gifts.

 Why is Mitigation Important?

Of all the changes, climate change poses a huge threat if not controlled it’s impacts will worsen. This we are already witnessing through cyclones, floods and other aspects of severe weather to mention but a few. Increased temperatures also cause effect include melting of the ice caps and thereby affecting the sea levels and ecosystems. They are deterioration of human health, food security and water supply. It is thus important for us to adopt measures to avoid these risks in order to preserve the earth for the future generation.

 Simple Steps for Individuals

Complacency is a disease that has plagued our society and perhaps much more than ever before, people are waking up to this reality hence; You don’t have to be a scientist or a policymaker to make a difference. Here are some easy actions you can take to help mitigate climate change: Here are some easy actions you can take to help mitigate climate change:

 Use Energy Wisely:

  •  Remember to switch off lights and other appliance that you don’t need at your home.
  •  Switch off lights when they are not in use and use energy efficient light bulbs/appliances, and utility fixtures.
  •  Switch off and unplug chargers and the devices when they are not in use.

 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:

  •  Avoid extravagancy, only make orders for what you really need.
  •  Reuse items whenever possible.
  •  Reduce the amount of waste that is thrown away by recycling such items as paper, glass, and plastics.

 Choose Sustainable Transportation:

  •  prefer to walk, bicycle, or use public transportation instead of reliance on a car.
  •  Ride with friends or your colleagues by sharing a car to your workplace.
  •  So if you are need a car you can choice an electric or hybrid car.

 Conserve Water:

  •  Cordially, repair any leaks or drips as they may aggravate infectious diseases especially to sick members in the household.
  •  Minimize your shower and meals washing and make sure to switch off the water tap while brushing your teeth.
  •  To clean driveways do not use a hose, instead a broom should be used.

 Eat a Plant-Based Diet:

Avoiding meat/balancing it with fruits, vegetables, and grains is the most manageable way to reduce the carbon footprint. One of the well recorded greenhouse gas emitters is the livestock farming.

 Support Renewable Energy:

  •  If possible, it is recommended to change to a green energy supplier, that uses wind, solar, or any other renewable energy.
  •  Try to install renewable energy if it is possible for you for instance, solar panel on your home.

Targets for Civilian and Corporate Worlds

The stakeholders include communities and business entities who are active participants in combating the issue of climate change. Here’s how they can contribute: Here’s how they can contribute:

 Develop Green Infrastructure:

  •  Advance the financing of public transport.
  •  Include a bike lane and pedestrian ways.
  •  Design structures that are energy-efficient and have sustainable fabrics used in constructions.

 Promote Renewable Energy:

  •  Increase the utilization of solar, wind and hydro electricity.
  •  Adopt policies that will encourage people in the business places and even in their homes to invest in renewable energy sources.

 Implement Sustainable Practices:

  •  Recycling programmes should be implemented in the organization and wastage minimized.
  •  Some of the measures can include; Use water sparingly and practice proper irrigation.
  •  Go with the locally grown and organic foods to minimize the transportation impact and use of chemicals.

 Educate and Advocate:

  •  Increase the concerns of the public regarding climate change issues and the necessity of reducing its impact.
  •  Promote the protection of environment by passing policies and regulations in environmental conservation. Government Policies and International Measures

In the course of this paper, it is established that policies and agreements by governments and international organizations have created a major influence on climate change mitigation. Some key actions include:

 Setting Emission Targets:

  •  Governments could regulate emissions of green house gases and possibly limit the emissions.
  •  Sectoral cap-and-trade programs can provide the needed motivation to companies to cut emissions.

Investing in Research and Innovation:

  •  Promote studies on innovative technologies that can facilitate the generation of clean energy as well as the conservation of energy.
  •  Innovate to reduce emissions in the areas of agriculture, transportation, and industry.

 International Agreements:

  •  Global cooperation can be made through an agreement such as the Paris Agreement to maintain global warming to below two degrees Celsius.
  •  Actively participate on latest climate management projects, as well as exchange of technologies as well as resources.

 Conclusion

One of the key priorities for societies at the global level is the activities for climate change mitigation. If every person moves individually, trusted local and business programs, increases personal contribution and demands a very effective government policy, then the result will be impressive. The little things all add up and this contributed to the decreased rate of global warming thus preserving the environment for the upcoming generations. We should move to accept these changes and strive towards a better environment; healthier, cleaner and sustainable.
